"Do not even think about opening that door..."
With these words, the sun goddess Amaterasu sealed herself up inside Amano-Iwato cave.
The gods became fearful that her rash act would plunge the world into eternal darkness.
They called upon Ameno Uzume, and asked her to dance naked in front of the cave to coax Amaterasu out.
When this happened the first time, the sun goddess couldn't help but be intrigued by this sight and emerged from the cave.
The gods were convinced that all they needed to do was pull the same trick and everything would be fine.
Amaterasu did indeed emerge from her cave. But things didn't quite go according to plan...
