In Norse paganism, the Ancient Elf may be based off the first elves created that have lived in forests and later gave birth to the splitting of the elves: Dökkálfar (Old Norse "Dark Elves", singular Dökkálfr) and Ljósálfar (Old Norse "Light Elves", singular Ljósálfr).
