Daikokuten, from Mythological Japan : the symbolisms of mythology in relation to Japanese art, with illustrations drawn in Japan, by native artists (1902).

In Japan, Daikokuten is the god, not goddess, of great darkness and blackness. He evolved from the hindu deity Shiva. He is best known for stealing Divinities (gods or goddesses) to obtain good luck. He holds a mallet, otherwise known as the magic money mallet, and is often seen seated on bales of rice with mice around him (mice are considered a sign of plenty of food).
