The mizugumo were used by ninja to cross rivers in total silence.
Mizu gumo, Japanese for 'water spider,' was a water crossing device used by ninjas. It was constructed from four carved pieces of wood fastened together to form an annulus. The "ninja" fitted both feet into clogs and put the centralleather section between their thighs and then advanced on the water using an oar.
